From royal court tailors to modern legends
Savile Row began as a quiet street in Mayfair and became the axis of masculine elegance: a place where kings, princes, business leaders, athletes and actors came to be dressed not just for a moment, but for history.
In the 19th century the Row evolved from military and court tailors into a street devoted entirely to the male silhouette. Royal households relied on its houses for uniforms and evening dress, and the same cutters quietly shaped the private wardrobes of kings and princes.
As London became a global capital, Savile Row dressed the men who drove it: diplomats, bankers, industrialists and, later, international business leaders and entrepreneurs. American actors and directors followed, crossing the Atlantic not for costumes but for real clothes that would outlive the film.
Today the clientele is broader but just as demanding: founders, finance professionals, champion athletes and modern royalty. They come for the same ritual: private fittings behind closed doors and garments that carry no logo, only a line that is unmistakably Savile Row.
